Anita D. Cohn, MSW, LCSW
A Leading St. Louis Anxiety & Depression Therapist for Women
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensed to practice in Missouri.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Webster University and received my Master of Social Work from St Louis University.
My diverse work history includes directing a homeless shelter for pregnant women with chemical addictions, a counseling program designed specifically for women being abused by high profile spouses/partners, working with hospice patients and families with end of life issues and providing counseling and resources for women suffering from post-partum depression through St. Louis University.
Due to my diverse professional background and my own interracial family, specializations in my private practice include interracial/interethnic relationships.
I provide consultations and presentations to groups, companies and educational institutions on trauma, anxiety, and depression.
My approach to therapy is to use my skills to help you develop the self-confidence to direct your life. It is my hope that through my guidance you allow yourself the opportunity for healing.
I utilize a combination of Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing( EMDR). Psychodynamic therapy may also be known as insight therapy. The goal is to help you become aware of how your past influences the present. Cognitive Behavioral therapy is solution oriented. By concentrating on thoughts that influence feelings we can change our behavior. Lastly, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy that helps you process trauma memories. Through eye movements it is suggested that you reprocess the traumatic event. Thereby, the trauma is stored in a different part of the brain. Hopefully, lessening problematic symptoms.
Additionally, there is a growing body of research that supports the practice of self-compassion and mindfulness in psychotherapy. Neuroscience research reveals individuals that practice these techniques are happier, more resilient, and better equipped to heal painful memories from the past. As a St. Louis therapist, it is my passion to help my clients move past what’s blocking them from reaching their full potential individually and in their relationships.
